Montgomery County Judge Craig Doyal, Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack and many state and federal officials attended the Hurricane Harvey Federal/State Housing Strike Team Meeting on Monday to confer the county’s vision of its disaster recovery action plan.
The meeting hosted by Beth Van Duyne, the regional administrator for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, consisted of key officials in the disaster recovery process, including Pete Phillips of the Texas General Land Office’s Community Development and Revitalization team and Kevin Hannes, the federal coordinating officer for FEMA.
The strike team meeting focused on 3 key issues, housing, infrastructure and economic revitalization.
“It is important to get all of these people in the same room so we can hash out the details of this extremely complex process and come up with the absolute best plan of action to recover from the devastation Harvey left in its wake,” said Commissioner Noack. “We want to make sure we provide the best possible recovery options for our constituents as well as make sure we receive every penny we can in order to perform much-needed flood mitigation studies, and then use those studies to follow through with action to better prepare us for storms of this magnitude.”
“I appreciate the willingness of Ms. Van Duyne, Housing and Urban Development, and other key officials to come to Montgomery County to hear our concerns, address our questions, and provide some important information,” said Judge Doyal. “The information we received will help us to work with these agencies to ensure we are obtaining the funds we need for our communities.”
Montgomery County will continue to stay in constant contact with the GLO, HUD and FEMA to make sure we bring the most effective method of recovery to Montgomery County residents.
