PRESS RELEASE

CONROE – Commissioner Noack made a motion to offer the tax payers of Montgomery County a 20% general homestead exemption to their County tax bill but that action was defeated by a 3-2 vote, Commissioner Noack and Commissioner Clark in favor and Commissioners Riley and Meador along with County Judge Craig Doyal against. Commissioner’s Court ultimately approved a 10% general homestead exemption but agreed to revisit it at a later date. “It has always been my charge to reduce taxes and I believe we are headed in the right direction” Noack said.  Tax Assessor-Collector Tammy McRae made a presentation to the Court about the implications the exemptions would have on the County budget. Commissioner Noack is encouraged that other taxing entities including the school districts will follow the County’s lead.

In other business, Commissioner’s Court approved Commissioner Noack’s nominee to the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District, former Conroe Mayor, Webb Melder. “Mayor Melder will serve all the citizens of Montgomery County and ask the hard questions” Noack said.
