Montgomery County Precinct 3 | James Noack

Commissioner James Noack continues efforts to improve mobility in Precinct 3 as Montgomery County Commissioners Court awarded contracts for the Elan Boulevard and Birnham Woods Drive widening projects Tuesday.

“These two projects are important for our office to get started as soon as possible,” Commissioner Noack said. “The east side of Precinct 3 is one of the fastest-growing areas in the county, and we must stay ahead of the curve to make sure mobility for those residents remains safe and easy.”

These two projects along with the ongoing Rayford Road widening project were identified in the South Montgomery County Mobility study as high-priority needs.

The Birnham Woods widening project will extend the northbound lanes from just north of Fuller Bluff to Elan Boulevard, adding a couple of lanes for a total of two in each direction. A traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Legends Run and Birnham Woods Drive.

The Elan Boulevard project will widen Elan to four lanes from Aldine Westfield Road to Birnham Woods Drive. Aldine Westfield Road also will be widened to four lanes from Elan Boulevard to Knoll Oaks Lane. A traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Elan Boulevard and Aldine Westfield.

Total cost for these two projects is estimated at $4.5 million, with funds coming from the 2015 road bond referendum approved by voters.

The contractor selected for both projects is Angel Brothers, which previously completed the widening of Birnham Woods Drive from Waterbend Cove to Fuller Bluff Drive.

Precinct 3 anticipates these projects to start in September to and take about one year to complete.
