The Rayford Road project is moving forward and Precinct 3 is proud to report that Commissioners’ Court awarded the contract to the low bidder, Smith and Company, at $26 million.
“I was pleased to see a local Montgomery County business was awarded the contract,” said Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack. “This project was initially estimated to cost $35 million, but we were able to take advantage of the current construction slump and it came in almost 25 percent under budget.”
Smith and Company is a locally based contractor and has completed several large-scale road projects for Montgomery County and the Texas Department of Transportation.
This project will widen Rayford Road from 4 to 6 lanes from Lazy Lane to SH99 and construct an overpass at the railroad tracks.
Precinct 3 has purchased 99 percent of the right-of-way needed for the project and has already started prepping it for construction. A pre-construction meeting was held on Thursday, March 2, where utility relocations and conflicts, scheduling, traffic control and public outreach were discussed.
The project and construction team are still working on a schedule but anticipate construction will begin in April and estimate completion to be late summer 2019. We will be making updates to the project website and sending updates via email.
