Montgomery County Precinct 3 | James Noack

Montgomery County commissioners on Tuesday morning accepted the updated Major Thoroughfare Plan – permanently removing the Woodlands Parkway, Gosling Road, and Branch Crossing extensions from the map.

In addition to working with all parties to eliminate the three controversial road proposals and ensure the Woodlands Parkway extension never will be constructed, Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack made sure there are no new thoroughfares or collectors proposed to be added in The Woodlands.

The 2021 Major Thoroughfare Plan, which updates the 2016 plan, provides a map of proposed and existing thoroughfares and collector roads throughout each of the four precincts in Montgomery County.

Each precinct conducted stakeholder meetings at the beginning of this process that included several members of the community. Then, an interactive map was posted online for several weeks, enabling residents to review the proposals and submit comments prior to acceptance and approval of the final revised MTFP map. BGE Engineering, which spearheaded the study to update the MTFP, received hundreds of comments from residents through the interactive website.

During Tuesday’s meeting, Commissioner Noack complimented BGE for putting the study together and going above and beyond to reach out to the public, stating it was a “well-thought-out and well-executed plan.”

The study to update the plan took into account recent and future population, employment and vehicle traffic growth; and performance of the existing and proposed roadway networks.

The study incorporated findings from the Precinct 3 South Montgomery County Mobility Study, as well as the ongoing Precinct 2 and Precinct 4 mobility studies.
